No. The results of the address verification service (AVS) check are for your information only. The card payment is processed even if the AVS check indicates a mismatch between the address information you entered and that on file at the cardholder's bank, or if the address information is not available.
One reason QuickBooks performs an AVS check is to reduce the merchant discount rate for your charges. The rate reduction applies even for transactions in which the AVS check returns a mismatch.
Code | What it means |
Match | The address information you entered (street and post code, or just post code) matches the address information on file with the cardholder's bank. |
No Match | The address information you entered (street, post code, or both, as specified) does not match the address information on file with the cardholder's bank. Your transaction will still be processed. If you suspect card fraud, you should void the transaction. |
Not Available | Either address checking is not supported by the cardholder's bank, or else this transaction came from a recurring template. Your transaction will still be processed. |
If the code returned for a transaction is "No Match", first check that you entered the customer's post code correctly when you set up the payment.
If you entered the post code correctly, find out from your customer why it does not match the address on file at the customer's bank.
If you suspect card fraud, avoid delivering your product or service and void the transaction.
