Safely store a customer's card number

When you enter a customer's card number, QuickBooks stores it in encrypted form using Extended DES encryption. QuickBooks doesn't cache the card number or save it in any other form.

Enter or edit a customer's card info

1. In the navigation bar, click Customers.
2. Click the customer name.
3. If the Customer Details tab isn't selected, click it.
4. Click Edit.
5. Click the Payment and billing tab.
6. Click the Preferred payment method drop-down arrow and select Card.
7. If QuickBooks doesn't have card info for this customer, click No card information. To edit existing card info, click the button displaying the partial card number.
8. Enter the customer's card info.
9. Click OK.
10. In the Customer Information window, click Save.

You can also enter a customer's card info on the following forms:

• Receive Payment
• Sales Receipt
• Refund Receipt
• Invoice (when it includes a deposit)

When you select the customer's card in a sales transaction, QuickBooks shows only the last five digits on the printed sales form. Why?

To keep your customers' data secure and comply with the latest security standards, we don't show the full card number once it's saved.
