Merge products and services

Over time, duplicate entries may appear in the Products and Services list. This can happen when other users of your company file create duplicates without realising it. For example, you offer landscaping as one of your services. When you set up the service in the Products and Services list, you entered it as "Landscaping". Later, a new employee who did not know about the existing service item created a new one called "Landscape". The good news is that you can clean up the Products and Services list by merging the two services.

What happens when you merge?

If you merge two products or services, for example, "Landscape" into "Landscaping", QuickBooks removes "Landscape" from the Products and Services list. Any transactions that used "Landscape" are unchanged, except that the item name now appears as "Landscaping".

To merge products and services:

You cannot undo a merge, so be careful.

1. Click the Gear icon > Products and Services.
2. Select the product or service that you want to remove from the list.
3. At the end of the row, click Edit.
4. Edit the Name to be the same as the product or service you want to merge this one into. For example, if you want to remove "Landscape" from the list and merge it into "Landscaping", change the name to "Landscaping".
5. Click Save and close.
6. In the confirmation window, click Yes.
