What is a chargeback?

A chargeback occurs when a credit card transaction is disputed by your customer, the cardholder. Depending on the situation, money is withdrawn from Intuit's account or your account because of this. If you think you've experienced a chargeback, please let us know because we may need your help to settle the dispute.

Common reasons for a dispute:

After a dispute is filed, the card issuer (typically the cardholder's bank) notifies Intuit and takes the disputed money from us to give back to the cardholder. Intuit then works on your behalf to resolve the situation.

We review every chargeback and respond to the card issuer if we have enough information. If the card issuer needs more, we might ask for your help to challenge the chargeback.

Documentation you might be requested to provide includes:

After we gather the details, we send them to the card issuing bank for review. The card issuer then determines how to resolve the dispute, either by siding with the cardholder, or with you, the merchant.
