What is the card security code (CVV)?

A card security code, or card verification value (CVV), is a unique 3- or 4-digit number on credit cards. It's a security measure that helps protect a consumer's credit card from fraud.

This code is required when the card isn't physically present. You don't need to enter the code if you swipe the card for payment.

However, if you key-enter the card information, you need to enter the CVV. QuickBooks doesn't save the code, so you need to enter it each time you verify a credit card transaction. Why do I need to enter the card security code every time?

The CVV for MasterCard, Visa, or Discover cards is a 3-digit number that appears on the back of the card, immediately following the credit card number.

The CVV for American Express is a 4-digit number that appears on the front of the card, above the credit card number.
