Find matching transactions

If QuickBooks can’t find a matching transaction, or finds one that’s incorrect, you can search for a better match.

  1. In the navigation bar, click Transactions > Banking.
  2. Select an account from the cards at the top of the page and select a transaction. The row expands to show you more details.
  3. Do one of the following:
  4. In the Match Transactions window, choose whether the transactions is in your home currency or a foreign currency.
  5. In the Match Transactions window, do any combination of the following:

If you're matching a foreign currency, QuickBooks will look for matches that are no more than plus or minus 10% of the total.

  6. When you find the item you're looking for, click its checkbox in the list on the left.
  7. If you are matching in your home currency: If the total amount is the same as the downloaded transaction amount, click Save.
  8. If the amounts are different, you can either match to multiple transactions or resolve the difference to make the amount equal.

If you are matching in a foreign currency: you can only choose one transaction to match. However, if you need to match more than one item, you can create a deposit transaction for the difference.

If there is a difference in the amount between currencies, QuickBooks manages this automatically in the background. It creates a Gain or Loss journal entry for the difference (Exchange Gain if there is a credit, or Exchange Loss if there is a Debit). To see this difference, run a Journal report.

When you click Save, the Match Transaction page closes and the transaction moves to the QuickBooks tab.
